Texas school shooting live updates: Uvalde cries as police investigate grim messages from shooter

A video recorded outside Robb Elementary School reveals new details on the timeline of the Uvalde shooting on Tuesday and shows parents who shouted that the police response was inadequate and slow and tried to enter the building themselves.

The video begins at 11:54 a.m. local time after the shooter, 18-year-old Salvador Rolando Ramos, entered the school. This moment suggests the shooter was inside the building for at least an hour before police announced at 1:06 p.m. that the shooting was over and had arrested Ramos, who was shot and killed.

“These cops are right here. Brother, there is a [expletive] shoot at school and these [expletive] The cops tell everybody to leave, man, while everybody tries to get their [expletive] children”, the man who recorded the video said at some point. The video was posted to the man’s Facebook account and verified by The Washington Post and Storyful.

Ramos entered the school with a gun after crashing his truck nearby around 11:30 a.m., according to police and witnesses interviewed by The Post. Authorities said police officers who arrived at the scene tried to enter the building but came under fire, and a tactical unit eventually broke in and confronted Ramos.

Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw told a news conference Wednesday that Ramos was killed between 40 and 60 minutes after officers first engaged him. but declined to be more specific.

Later in the Facebook video clip, the man recording it says the kids “are all in there and the cops aren’t doing anything [expletive] but standing outside. A woman who says her son is inside the school is heard urging police to shoot the shooter if they can. “They are children,” she cries. “I will go, I will [expletive] to go.”

The man and woman then tell law enforcement that “all parents are going to the front”. Video shows adults arguing with a law enforcement official who yells at them to cross to the other side of the street and, in at least one case, appears to be forcing push a grown man away from school.

“You know there are children, don’t you?” They are small children, they do not know how to defend themselves, ”shouts the man who turns the video in the direction of the officer. In the background, the woman is shouting, “Okay, we’ll back up, will you walk through that door and grab it?”
