Okinawa forms joint venture with Italian EV manufacturer Tacita for high-end scooters and bicycles

Okinawa, the electric two-wheeler manufacturing company, and Tacita, an Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer, have formed a joint venture, based in India, which will begin production in India from 2023. This joint venture will include two product lines: scooters and motorcycles. Both lines are aimed at national and international markets. It will start producing electric vehicles in 2023.

The range will include a high-end performance scooter and motorcycle and will be equipped with connectivity systems. The bikes would go into production early next year at the second Okinawa factory in Rajasthan.

Okinawa will ensure the local development of the future product and its production chain. Tacita will supply the powertrain, controller, motor, batteries and BMS.

The design will be developed in Italy at Tacita’s headquarters. Road tests will be carried out in India and Italy in all weather conditions. Part of the testing is expected to include a maiden voyage from Okinawa headquarters in India to Tacita headquarters in Italy.

Jeetender Sharma, MD and Founder of Okinawa Autotech, said, “Tacita’s mission is aligned with ours to create a sustainable future. We envision the collaboration to create a synergy effect that will accelerate our commitment to electric mobility. There is a constant and conscious change in consumer preferences and we have witnessed an increasing demand for high end and high performance electric motorcycles in India. Tacita will help us create a market that matches the demand for futuristic technologies and products. Their advanced and futuristic technology will also expand and strengthen our existing product line.”
