Free repair of children’s bikes

TurningWheels for Kids, a program of the Valley Medical Center Foundation, will host a free bicycle repair clinic for children at the Bay Area Community Health Clinic, 9460 No Name Uno in Gilroy (on the campus of St. Louise Regional Hospital ), September 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Families are encouraged to bring their children’s broken bikes to the event, and the Bike Doctorz will repair the bikes for free. The event is by appointment only, as places are limited. To register, visit bit.ly/TWFKBRC6.

Food, music and more at San Martin Airport

San Martin Airport will feature the Food Truck Fly-In, an event filled with food, aircraft displays, aviation-focused entertainment and live music on September 11 starting at 10 a.m.

The free event will feature a line of parked planes, local pilots flying in formation overhead, and a 9/11 tribute parachute jump from Skydive Silicon Valley.

The South Bay Military Veterans Choir will perform after the national anthem sung by Sofia Gonzalez de Gilroy.

A variety of food trucks will offer a variety of fares available for purchase.

The Wings of History Aircraft Museum, opposite the airport, will also be open.

Parking will be located at 13030 Murphy Ave. in San Martin, opposite the Wings of History Museum.

Selling books comes back to the library

The Friends of the Gilroy Library will be hosting a big book sale on September 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Library, 350 West Sixth St.

Prices range from 50 cents for paperbacks and up for other items. Purchase individual items or a full bag ($ 5 for members and $ 8 for non-members).

DUI checkpoint cleans citations

Twenty-six people were cited for driving with a suspended / revoked license or without a license during a DUI checkpoint by Gilroy police on August 27.

The checkpoint took place on First Street near Wren Avenue from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

A total of 793 vehicles were contacted during the checkpoint.

The locations are based on a history of accidents and impaired driving arrests, police said.

Funding was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The mayor hosts a conversation meeting

The community is invited to join Mayor Marie Blankley and Director of Community Development Karen Garner for a conversation and coffee on September 18 at 9:30 a.m. in Council Chambers, 7351 Rosanna St.

The theme will be the Department of Community Development and Housing in Gilroy.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Drive-thru Spaghetti Dinner Benefits St. Mary’s School

The St. Mary’s School Men’s Club is having a drive-through fundraising dinner only with spaghetti on October 1st.

Dinner includes spaghetti, a ‘secret sauce’, garlic bread and a garden salad with Italian dressing and Parmesan.

Each tray will sell for $ 50 and must be reserved by purchasing in advance at bit.ly/3tlK0LS.

The deadline to purchase dinner tickets is September 30 at 9 p.m. Donations can be made until October 1 at 11:30 p.m.
