Ducati is expected to launch its 2021 Monster in India later in September. The automaker launched several new models this year, the most recent being the Supersport 950. However, the Monster is also one of the most popular Ducatis.

  • Big changes compared to the predecessor

  • Improved electronics package

  • Produces 111 hp and 93 Nm of torque

The Italian motorcycle company will also introduce the exotic Panigale V4 SP in India around November of this year. You can read more about it here.

Coming back to the Monster, Ducati plans to call it that without any number suffix like the previous generation models. The biggest change comes from the new aluminum front frame which is inspired by the Panigale V4. This unit attaches directly to the engine and weighs just 3kg, which is 4.5kg lighter than the iconic trellis frame of the old model. Weight saving measures in other areas like the swing arm, wheels, a smaller fuel tank (from 17.5 liters to 14 liters) and even in the engine have helped Ducati reduce a whopping 18 kg. . This results in a competitive curb weight of 188 kg.

On the suspension side, the new Monster comes with a non-adjustable 43mm USD fork and a preload adjustable single shock. Braking is provided by Brembo M4.32 calipers at the front and the 2021 model uses Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 tires.

The Monster is powered by the same 937cc engine that is also found in the Multistrada 950 and Supersport. This engine is larger than the 821cc block of the previous Monster 821 and meets more stringent Euro 5 / BS6 emissions standards. Power and torque amount to 111 hp and 93 Nm, which is a slight increase compared to the old model.

Facing the rider is a 4.3-inch TFT screen that allows you to switch between three driving modes – Sport, Touring and Urban. The ABS and traction control systems are both lean angle sensitive and the bike also offers wheel control, launch control and a two-way quickshifter.

The Ducati Monster 2021 costs around Rs 2 lakh (£ 2,000) less than the SuperSport 950 in the UK. The SuperSport 950 costs Rs 13.5 lakh in India, and if we see a similar difference here, we can expect a price close to Rs 11.5 lakh. However, we could also see a slightly lower price because it is in a competitive segment.
