Andrea Doviziso will only make her second MotoGP start on the Algarve International Circuit this weekend, which will also be her first time aboard Yamaha in Portimao.

The Italian endured another tough round at Misano despite winning two points, having struggled to find significant improvements in the changing conditions.

When it has been completely dry or completely wet the Yamaha has been a match for most bikes on the grid, however the wet / drying conditions have been a major issue all season – not just for Dovizioso who has faced the wet weather on his three races with Yamaha in 2021.

Fortunately for Yamaha and Dovizioso, the penultimate round of this weekend’s 2021 campaign is expected to be completely dry, which should give the Italian a chance to replicate his best COTA performance.

Dovizioso, who has one less experience racing around Portimao compared to most of the current grid, will also have his first glimpse of the roller coaster track on the M1, which won at the hands of Fabio Quartararo in April.

“The Algarve International Circuit is a very unique track and I don’t know what it will look like with the Yamaha M1, especially because we are still learning new settings with the bike,†added Dovizioso.

“I’m really interested to see if we can be more competitive in Portimao, because in Misano we didn’t have the opportunity to do that given the changing track conditions.

“I hope to take a step forward because it is difficult to fight at the moment.

“I also hope that we will have good conditions in Free Practice, because we need it to keep progressing and to complete more laps on the bike.”
